Progress

The Build a Smarter Infrastructure driver group has been meeting regularly to move forward with their list of obejectives as identified in the Future of Cayman Strategic Report. Their progress is recorded below:
a. Objective Progress:
- The Energy Policy Review Committee delivered a presentation at the Chamber’s BE INFORMED series on 26th October and provided the community with an update on the progress with developing an energy policy for the Cayman Islands.
- The Driver Group is in the process of gathering information to assist with the development of a national infrastructure development plan. All stakeholders are engaged in the process.
- Research is currently being carried out to evaluate how other jurisdictions address the important matter of funding long term infrastructural requirements.
b. Objective Progress
- A Chamber contingent visited Jamaica as guests of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) on a fact finding mission to tour three projects currently under construction at the same time as determining some key facts relating to CHEC and their business practices. CHEC is the company most recently in discussions with the CI Government regarding the proposed new port facility. A full report has been made available to the Chamber membership and general public and a special BE INFORMED session was held to present the report and the respond to any questions.
- Meetings held with representatives from DART to review and discuss the remediation of the George Town landfill and the establishment of a new site in Bodden Town.
- Meetings held with representatives from the Airport Authority to discuss plans to renovate and expand the Owen Roberts International Airport and Gerard Smith Airport in Cayman Brac.
